Coaching Tip #5 – Want Free Relationship Advice? Establish Clear Boundaries for Successful Personal and Professional Relationships!

sam_and_ralph_clock

Sheep Dog Sam and Ralph Wolf had a successful relationship balance.

So how did they do it?
More importantly, how can you?

Did you pick up the free relationship advice from Sam and Ralph on how to successfully manage personal and professional relationships?

Like a light switch, Sam and Ralph were able to transition between personal and professional relationship mode with no trouble.  They taunted us by showing off great skill in how they so eloquently straddled their personal and professional relationship boundaries.  It was so “left-field” for us that we found it hilarious.

Warner Brothers was so tuned into the delicate topic of crossing personal and professional relationship boundaries that they created a cartoon series that, while entertaining, shoved the stupidity of the whole issue right in our faces!  When you laughed at the idiotic behaviour of Sam and Ralph, who were you really laughing at?

The root of all relationship problems is almost always founded on some “make-believe” or unsubstantiated, fictional “fact”…something we’ve made up or believe we can or cannot do.  For example…“John is my friend, so how can I charge him for that?”

Here’s the secret to eliminating all relationship problems and to creating successful balance between personal and professional relationships:

1)  Don’t assume you know what’s going on,
2)  Create clear, concise and unambiguous relationship boundaries,
2)  And, communicate these boundaries with the people who you respect, love and cherish most.

Then, stand back and watch how your relationships flourish, both professionally and personally!

It won’t be easy.  In fact it might seem impossible.  But humor me for a moment and choose a different perspective.  Choose a perspective of either Sheep Dog Sam or Ralph Wolf.  Now, from this new “place”, how might you approach “John” about charging for your services?  What affect will this have on your relationship?

At first, it might be a good idea to introduce a trigger, like a punch clock, to help identify and direct the transition between personal and professional relationship mode.  Be creative with what you choose as a trigger.  Want some help with this?

If you only take one lesson away from this article, it’s that we can definitely  learn a lot from watching cartoons!  That’s all Folks!

Coaching Tip #4 – Want to Achieve Success with Your Personal Development Goals? Create a Visual Advertising Campaign for You!

billboard

Why do you think the commercial world uses visual advertising tools such as billboards, posters and TV commercials to market their products?

Want the answer?

They are leveraging the Law of Attraction to Attract Abundance.  They are also leveraging your subconscious mind.

How much easier is it for you to remember what you watch vs. what you hear or read?  This is even more evident in the blogging world as more and more people are creating vblogs to broadcast their messsages.  Look how effectively the expert network marketers have leveraged YouTube to become incredibly wealthy.

Visual advertising targets the reticular activating system (RAS) in our brains to ensure we remember the important messages being broadcasted to us.  The RAS is basically the information filtering system for the brain.  It is the primary receiver of all messages presented to you.  The RAS filters through all the crap so that only those messages that are important to you get through to the brain.  For example, in a noisy room your attention is quickly diverted in the direction that your name is called.  Another example is how as soon as you purchase something brand new and unique, such as a new, cool coloured car, you immediately begin to notice half the world has the same coloured, “not-so-cool-anymore” car?  Thank your RAS for that.

It is generally agreed that the human brain processes up to 100 trillion bits of information every second.  With all that information coming in, how does your RAS prioritize messages?  Your RAS is naturally programmed to prioritize information that is necessary for survival, like listening for the particular sound of an oncoming vehicle when walking close to a street. The RAS can’t distinguish between a real event and a contrived reality [1].  You can can exploit this weakness and program your RAS to seek out stimuli that are aligned with your personal development goals.  But how?

In the same manner that companies leverage visual advertising to stimulate your RAS.  You need to create your own visual advertising campaign!

visionboard

Many highly successful people have been effectively creating visual advertising campaigns for their personal development goals.  These visual advertising campaigns are more widely known as Vision Boards in the personal development world.  Vision Boards are basically a collage of images consisting of pictures, words, etc. that are all related to a specific personal development goal.  Once completed, the vision board is positioned in an appropriately high traffic area so you can’t help but notice it, repeatedly through the day.  This is the same basic strategy employed by companies who place billboards alongside highways!

Creating a vision board is perhaps the most effective method of programming the RAS because your vision board will contain visual advertising that you choose and this visual advertising is specific to your  personal development goal.

I will include links to some Vision Board products that are available under the Resources Link.  If you spend too much time on your computer the video below presents an incredibly effective screen-saver based Vision Board program.  Your personal development coach can also guide you through the process of creating a visual advertising campaign for your personal development goals.

Goal Setting Success Strategy

Coaching Tip #3 – Want to Know How to Set Personal Development Goals? Instead, Change Your Intent and Create a Success Strategy to Achieve Your Goals!

2nd-placeWhy are you struggling to find success with your personal development goals?

Because you’re not good enough?
Because you’re not capable?

NOT!

The problem is not with you or your ability.  The problem is that you don’t know how to ask for what you want.  I’m not talking about “please” and “thank-you’s”.  I’m talking about getting clear, concise and unambiguous on what it is that you want.

As a personal development coach the first priority for my clients with creating a personal development success strategy is to become clear on their intent with personal goal setting.

The secret to effective goal setting is not to learn how to set personal development goals.  The trick is to change your perspective.  You, as the client, need to be intent on achieving success with your personal development goals.  Me, as your personal development coach, need to serve you by maintaining the process.  You need to know the “who’s”“what’s”, “why’s” and “when’s” around your personal development goals.  I need to know the “how’s”…the steps to take to support your effective goal setting.  This is also the most efficient means to your successful goal setting because I provide the tools and specialized knowledge and you waste no time getting to work!

I have a highly effective, fun and successful process to support you in effective goal setting and creating a personal development success strategy.

Here’s an example result from my personal development coaching approach:

A typical goal that someone might have:

“I would like to have five new clients for my coaching practice.”

A nice goal, but hardly clear, concise and unambiguous.  And, as a result, hardly achievable.  Bottom line, this is not effective goal setting.  It is simply a nice sentence.

Spend a few minutes with me and this sentence will evolve into a personal development goal success strategy statement like:

“Today is August 25, 2009 and I now have five additional clients for my life coaching practice who are committed to a 3 month program at $1,500 each.”

What differences do you notice between these two personal development goals?  How much more excited were you reading the second statement compared to the first sentence?  Which person is more likely to achieve success with their personal development goal?  Which personal development goal would you like to have?

Goal Setting Success Strategy

Coaching Tip #2 – Want to Achieve Success with your Personal Goal Setting Process? Consider SMART Goal Setting Strategies!

You want to achieve success through your Personal Goal Setting Process.

So, what’s the secret to Effective Goal Setting?

There are a number of goal setting strategies, goal setting tools, and goal setting processes that consultants and coaches are willing to sell you.  The secret is that all of them can work.  None of them will work.  That’s an audacious but true statement.

Here’s the secret:

skid-marks

To experience effective goal setting your personal goal setting process must have a direct connection to your personal values.  This is a simple check and balance for anything and everything you do.

So, one step in your personal goal setting strategy must be an alignment check with your personal values.  Just like with your car, if the alignment is off, you’ll have a hard time keeping it straight and you’re gonna wear out prematurely.  More on this another time, for now just be aware of the alignment factor.

Today, I want to briefly share my perspective on effective goal setting strategies.

Your personal goal setting process would be much more fun if you had some goal setting tools to work with.  And, chances are, if you’re having fun then you will create more effective goal setting strategies.

I want two things for you:

1)  I want you to experience success with your personal goal setting process
2)  I want you to have fun while you create effective goal setting strategies

If you google “goal setting” or some variation of the idea of setting goals you will probably come across the acronym SMART.  FYI…at the time of posting this article SMART goal setting was fifth on the search results list.  Bottom line, SMART goal setting is nothing new.  The steps represented by each letter in the SMART goal setting process acronym will differ slightly from coach to coach.  However, the application of the SMART goal setting process will be the deciding factor in the success you experience through your personal goal setting process.

Two questions:

1)  What is possible for you when the personal goal setting process is fun?
2)  How will the results be different when you  experience fun with personal goal setting?

Personal Development Success Strategy

Coaching Tip #1 – Want to Create a Self Development Success Strategy? Hire a Personal Development Coach!

First things first, what the heck is a “Self Development Success Strategy”?  In simple terms, a Self Development Success Strategy is the plan or process you and your personal development coach will create and follow.  This success strategy will be the foundation from which you will create the life you want.

gameplanCreating Your Personal Development Success Strategy

As with any significant endeavour, it is best to know where you are going before you can create a success strategy to get you there.  However, when you’re considering a self development journey it’ll be tough to create that success strategy on your own.  Like when you’re visiting a new country or city, it’s best to involve someone who’s familiar with the territory to help get your around.  In the self development world, that person is your personal development coach.  You can think of a personal development coach kind of like a guide or taxi driver.  Like these people your personal development coach is responsible for getting you from “A” to “B”.  Unlike these people your personal development coach is not focused on getting you there quickly.  Actually, in some instances, usually at the most inconvenient of times,  taxi drivers are more similar to personal development coaches than we’d like!

You’re personal development success strategy will consider the following:

1)  Who are you? (personal values, goals, etc.)
2)  Where you are today?
3)  Where do you want to get to?
4)  Why do you want to get there?
5)  How will you know when you’ve arrived?

and most importantly…

6)  How will you celebrate once you’re there?

Your personal development coach will have specialized knowledge and tools to help you explore each of these areas to ensure your personal development success strategy is authentic, realistic and follows the SMART principles.
